Where is Lapland?

Lapland is a vast area spread across Finland, Norway, Sweden and Russia.

How long is the flight?

Approximately 3 1/2 hours

What is the time difference?

Lapland is 2 hours ahead.

What is the currency?

Most trips are based in Finland where the currency is the Euro. Cash machines are available in Levi and Saariselka and credit cards can be used in most shops and restaurants.

What is the climate like?

Temperatures are between 0 to -26 °C or below with only about 5 hours of 'grey light' (generally between 10:00am and 2:30pm Finnish time, although this will vary up to one hour based on location). When the sky is clear this can be clear blue skies with the most amazing colours.

What clothes should I pack?

Please do not be overly worried as all trips include thermal overalls and boots. You will normally have to supply your own hats, gloves and scarves. A layer or two underneath is recommended.

What are the passport requirements?

Full British passport holders are valid for entry. Citizens of Nordic countries (Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Norway ) do not need a passport for entering Finland. EU-nationals, and citizens of Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland and Schengen Agreement countries (Austria, Belgium,Denmark,France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherland, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden ) can enter Finland with a valid passport or a valid identity card. All other nationalities require a valid passport.

Is there skiing in Lapland?

Cross country and downhill skiing is accessible for experienced skiers on 3, 4 or 5 night visits, though limited time will make this difficult for beginners to take a course.
